General travel information

Travel to Holy Isle via Ardrossan Harbour, on the South West coast of Scotland about ten miles north of Ayr.

From the ferry terminal at Ardrossan Harbour take the ferry to Brodick on the Isle of Arran. The journey takes 55 minutes. Bus 323 from the ferry terminal at Brodick connects with the ferry and takes you round to Lamlash Pier (10 minutes) from where the Holy Isle Ferry will bring you across Lamlash Bay to Holy Isle. The ferry trip takes about 10 minutes.

Getting to Ardrossan Harbour.

  • Rail - there are direct trains from Glasgow Central.
  • Car - you can leave your car in the carpark of the ferry terminal.
  • Bus - buses run from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow to Ardrossan Town, from where it is a short walk up to the Harbour.
  • Air - the two nearest airports are Glasgow Airport and Prestwick International Airport

Prestwick International Airport has a train station, from where regular trains go to Ardrossan Harbour via Kilwinning. From Glasgow Airport bus 757 shuttles to Paisley Gilmour Street (10 minutes) for direct trains to Ardrossan Harbour. For train times

Crossing to Holy Isle for guests

Between April and end October, the Holy Isle Ferry usually runs to connect with the 09.45, 12.30 and 15.15 main ferries from Ardrossan Harbour. So, if you catch a later ferry from Ardrossan Harbour, you may need to stay the night on Arran.

Crossing Lamlash Bay to the Holy Isle depends on the timing of low tide. When you book your stay on Holy Isle we'll send you a confirmation email, detailing  crossing times for your specific dates.

High winds can sometimes prevent crossings. Holy Isle office staff watch the weather closely and liaise daily with the Holy Isle Ferry. If disruption looks possible, we'll do our best to warn you a few days in advance. If you are in any doubt, please contact Holy Isle Reception ( or 01770 601100) before your departure to ensure that tides and weather are favourable.
