Since the Tsunami struck on Boxing Day 2004, Venerable Rewatha has been actively involved in charity work in Southern Sri Lanka. Course fee is by donation to Venerable Rewatha's charitable work.

Course outline

This weekend retreat, which is suitable for beginners and more experienced meditators, teaches mindfulness meditation based on a fusion of traditional Buddhist practice and modern western approaches to health care and education as promoted in the programme of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre.


This course is secular although it is led by a Theravada Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka. 

The course begins on Friday evening at 7pm with an introduction to mindfulness and the Saturday is dedicated to practice and discussions. There is also plenty of time in the programme to experience the beautiful island. Outside we will be doing walking meditation along the beach, so you will have a chance to really immerse. There is also a chance to do some hill walking for those who wish as part of the mindfulness practice. On Sunday, there will be an opportunity to experience the power silent meditation to really deepen your practice. 

Venerable Rewatha, a Buddhist monk of thirty-four years standing, has designed aspects of this course to allow those who are interested in learning mindfulness ways of developing mindful skills as an aid to managing stress. Complete beginners are welcome. 

There will also be opportunities for one to one discussions with Venerable Rewatha Thero.

Early booking is recommended. The course starts at 7pm on Friday and finishes at Monday noon, but it is possible to leave Sunday noon. For those who leave Sunday the prices are as follows: £110 single room, £160 for two people sharing a twin each, £64 dorms.
